Surgical Procedures: Sterilization by Laparoscopy

Sterilization by Laparoscopy is a procedure to achieve permanent sterilization. A small incision is made in the abdomen and gas is used to inflate the abdomen in order for the surgeon to better view the area. The laparoscope is inserted through the incision and is used like a camera to look at the organs. The fallopian tubes are then closed by clamping, cutting, tying etc so that an egg cannot pass through the tube.

This procedure is not reversible and is only for patients that do not wish to have children in the future.
